The Health Insurance Marketplace helps uninsured and under-insured individuals and families compare and shop for affordable health insurance plans as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), sometimes called “Obamacare”. Most people who use the Marketplace will qualify for tax credits, which lower the cost of monthly payments. These lower costs are only available to those who apply for coverage through Healthcare.gov.
Open Enrollment for health insurance through the marketplace ended on January 31, 2017. Visit Healthcare.gov to find out if you qualify for a special enrollment period.
Most people must have health insurance or pay a fine, and the fine for those without insurance will be increasing this year. Buying from the Marketplace means you won’t have to pay the fee. Find out more about the fine, fees and exemptions.
